What An Opportunity!

As many of you know, we have been praying about our next step. We remain confident that God has called us to serve in Honduras in a church planting and orphan caring capacity. While it is true we don’t always understand God’s plan, we can see His hand guiding us in this time of transition. As you know, the door for us to serve on the property in Copan has been closed. We love the people there and are thankful beyond words for our time there. We have been praying and searching for where God wants us and we now have direction to move.

A few months back I (Chris) met with a missionary in Comayagua, Honduras who has been faithfully serving in Honduras for the past 10 years. They have planted a church and started a children’s home. They are at a transitional time in their ministry as well and have been praying that God would lead the right family to continue to build on the foundation that was laid. Through a difficult set of circumstances, the ministry was closed for a short period of time.  However, the church is operational again.unspecified-1-01

The property has staff housing, dormitory space, watchmen quarters, a church building, Sunday school space and a workshop/barn. It is located in an area that is growing and is expected to grow rapidly in the future. It is an incredible location and an equally incredible opportunity! After talking with the missionary in Comayauga, our pastor, our mission board president, and each other, we believe this is the direction God is leading us.

We are making our plans to purchase this property and continue to serve God in Honduras. The price of this property is $200,000. My first thought was no. Absolutely not. While the price is more than reasonable for the property, that is about $200,000 more than I can afford today. God, however, wouldn’t let it rest in my mind. I talked with our pastor in CT and others who challenged my faith. The truth is we could not duplicate this ministry from scratch for this price. Once we purchase this property, we will be years ahead of where we would be without it. It really is a tremendous opportunity God has given to us.

I talked with the missionary/owner and continue to do so. There are a few options and payment schedules that we may be able to work out. We will have more information on this in future updates.

We are putting together a special Christmas offering for churches to join with us inthis new direction and would ask you to prayerfully consider involving your church in this. We will be sending out regular updates about this fundraising push. We will be in the states for the time being as we fundraise and put together everything that is necessary to make this vision a reality. We have a lot of work to do!unspecified-2-01

We are thankful for all of your continued support and involvement in our lives during this transition. This is your ministry as much as it is ours. We are co-laborers together with Christ! We will be giving regular updates that detail how you can be involved. We have some great ideas that will allow us to work together for a common goal. It is exciting to see how God is leading and to take a step of faith to follow him. Please keep us in your prayers as we remember to pray for you as well.

If you have any questions for us, please feel free to contact us directly.

In Christ,

Chris Birkholz and Family
